Calculate your dog’s age
Common dog age questions
Most dog owners want a direct answer first. These are the main dog-age questions Puppy Years answers, with links to deeper pages when you want the chart, breed notes, or senior details.
How the dog age calculator works
The first two years do a lot of work in the estimate. A one-year-old dog is treated as about 15 human years, and a two-year-old dog is treated as about 24. After that, Puppy Years adds human years at a different pace for small, medium, large, and giant dogs, using breed data when possible and size as the fallback for mixed-breed dogs.

Want to go the other way? The reverse calculator lets you enter a human age, choose a dog size group, and see the dog age that lands closest to that human-years estimate.
What your Puppy Years result shows
The result card keeps the important details in one place: your dog’s exact age, estimated human age, life stage, birthday countdown, half birthday, weekday born, zodiac sign, birthstone, birth flower, and matching breed guide. It gives the answer first, then offers the best next page for your dog’s age or breed.

Dog years are not just seven times your dog’s age
The seven-year rule is easy to remember, but dogs age fastest early in life. Size and breed make the later years more realistic.

Dog age calculator questions
How old is my dog in human years?
Enter your dog’s birthday and breed in the calculator. Puppy Years estimates human years by using age first, then breed size after the first two years.
Is one dog year really seven human years?
No. The seven-year rule is a simple shortcut. It does not account for the fast puppy years or the way size and breed affect aging.
How old is a 13 year old dog in human years?
A 13-year-old dog is about 68 in human years if small, 79 if medium, 90 if large, and 101 if giant using the Puppy Years estimate.
When is a dog considered senior?
Senior age depends on breed size and expected lifespan. Small dogs often reach senior status later than large and giant dogs.
Can I calculate dog years by breed?
Yes. Choose your dog’s breed in the calculator, or open a breed age guide to see a chart and life stage notes for that breed.
Can I use this for a mixed breed dog?
Yes. Choose Mixed Breed / Not Sure, then choose the closest size group. The result will use size instead of a specific breed.
